About Our Book Sales: The Friends hold book sales twice a year in May and October in the lower level of the library. We have over 15,000 books for sale, ranging in price from $.25 to $2.00. Friends volunteers prepare for the sale for months. Shelves are continually refreshed with thousands of newly donated books in good condition. Books are carefully sorted, making searching for books easy. For example, non-fiction adult sections include sports, true crime, politics, history, biography, cooking, diet, gardening, travel, pets, crafts, finance, photography, music, TV and film, nature, religion, computer, business, and more. There are shelves of science fiction, romance, and mystery, as well as general fiction and classics. Thousands of children's books, CDs, DVDs, audio books, and special collections of collectible and antiquarian books are also available at the sales.
Ongoing Book Sale: Friends has expanded the Ongoing Book Sale from
what was once a small cart to twelve shelves opposite
the circulation desk. The selection is diverse and
constantly changing. On any given day one may find
a few beautiful cookbooks, a complete collection of
Harry Potter novels, a Red Sox pictorial, popular
children and young adult books, a collection of
Beatles sheet music, as well as adult best sellers,
DVDs and CDs and specialized games. Most items
are priced from $1-$3. All the books are in excellent
condition and perfect for gifts.
Donating Books
How may I donate books?
Friends has a bin inside the
lower entrance… you can just drop them there. Don't forget: all donations are tax-deductible!
What may I donate?
Friends is looking for good
condition books... children and adult, fiction and non-fiction. We’re also looking for vintage or antiquarian books. Any textbooks or encyclopedias
should be less than five years old. We take CD’s, DVD’s, Books on CD’s, games and puzzles, framed artwork, sheet music, and records. We no longer accept
VHS and cassette tapes. Please do not give us magazines or materials with mildew.
What happens to the books I donate?
The volunteers, along with
the librarians, first look for books, DVD’s, or CD’s which might be
entered into the library’s own collection.
Then twice a month we sort and shelve the books, paying special
attention to interesting “like new” materials which we might display upstairs
on our Ongoing Book Sale Shelves (Check out the shelves often, for we constantly are putting new books on display.) Each book sale –
May and October – will have over 15,000 books. After each sale we clean out
many of the unsold books so as to have a fresh selection for the next
sale. Those books are donated to an organization which distributes them
to other non-profits in need.
